LWIF EP158: What a Japanese Castle Town is Like Nowadays

What a Japanese Castle Town is Like Nowadays. I traveled to Tamba-sasayama, a town about an hour’s train ride away from Kyoto and Osaka, to visit a place that some call ‘Small-Kyoto’. I check out what it’s like around the local castle, Sasayama Castle, as well as the surrounding areas for samurai, peasants, merchants and artisans.

Thanks to the city of Tamba-Sasayama for sponsoring this video. The city of Tamba-Sasayama has been certified as an official Japanese heritage site by the Agency for Cultural Affairs and as a UNESCO Creative City in the field of Crafts and Folk Arts. The city’s prevalent rich history and culture have resulted in it being the location for several movies and period dramas.
